Douglas J. Stahel, LCSW
I received a Masters in Social Work from Tulane University in 1972. I have been a psychotherapist since then and in private practice since 1993. I also provide adult psychoanalysis, and I am currently in training for child and adolescent psychoanalysis. My training has been with the New Orleans-Birmingham Psychoanalytic Center. I am in network with several major health insurance companies as well as Medicare.
Therapy is characterized by the exploration and expression of feelings and by the identification of clients’ patterns of behavior, both past and present, that impair one's progress. Some goals of therapy are personal growth and lessening pain and discomfort. Also very important is the client–therapist treatment relationship, as well as understanding what is conscious and unconscious and what is difficult and painful to see in ourselves.
